Case Study: East Baton Rouge Parish Radio Interoperability Trailer (click to download as pdf, with photo’s)
pCom® 300 Radio and Video Interoperability Trailer for Public Safety
Market: Public Safety / Office of Homeland Security
Customer: East Baton Rouge Office of Sheriff Sid Gautreaux
pCom® Integration by: EMCO Technologies, Baton Rouge, La.
The Parish of East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office required a mobile communications system capable of responding on scene at an event with its own Power, Tower, and Interoperability Radio and Video Communications.
The Radio Services Department of East Baton Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with EMCO Technologies and Squire Tech Solutions, designed a full interoperability suite to fulfill the require specifications.
Core of the interoperability system is the Motorola® Motobridge™ Gateway which provides the ability to patch and interoperate the on board 6 rack mounted 700MHz, 800MHz, UHF and VHF Radio consoles. The Motobridge™ reduces the need to carry a cache of radios into an event or incident to make sure that everyone can talk to each other. The Motobridge™ can also be used as a is patch console from the rear electronic compartment of the pCom® Trailer. The EBR pCom® has mounted speakers and a boom microphone on the top communications shelf for console management purposes.
An Axis Pan Tilt Zoom (PTZ) camera was installed at the top of the 30’ Mast for on-scene monitoring and recording. EBR is able to store the video on the 1TB portable hard drive that is part of the digital video recording system. This video feed can be stored locally as well as accessed and controlled via an internet connection. The system also has ability to activate video and recording based on motion sensing triggers.
The pCom’s® VSAT Internet provides EBR Sheriff’s operators the ability to manage both the Motobridge™ patching, remote viewing and control of the mast camera through a secure internet connection. We can come in to the Motobridge™ remotely to create or disable patches, as well as, physically change channels on the radios in the rack to create completely different patches.
The East Baton Rouge pCom® trailer will continue to change and adapt to the requirements of the Office it serves. In the near future a low power conventional repeater will be added to the EBR pCom® to allow for the system to become a conventional standalone site. They will double the current range of the conventional radio network. The Motobridge™ has the capability to add two more radios so EBR is going to add interface cables that will work with other portable radios. These cables will enable participating agency to supply portable radios and “add” that radios full range of channels to the gateway without reprogramming anything in the pCom® trailer.
The pCom® is a mission critical Mobile Powered Communications developed and manufactured by Squire Tech Solutions. This system is a mid-duty single axle trailer designed for critical deployments in often the most extreme environments. pCom® features an onboard 10KW generator with 100 gallon diesel fuel cell, a large storage compartment, and a NEMA 4X rated equipment bay with two professional grade communications equipment racks. The pCom® comes standard with a 30’ pneumatic mast (up to 50’ without guy wires), an auto-acquire VSAT satellite antenna system, long range wireless access point, and an infrastructure designed for adding critical system. pCom® comes equipped with broadband satellite Internet, a phone gateway, and networking components while the rest of the bay is available for customers and integrators to equip the pCom® to meet their specific needs.
